Bishkek International Medical Institute has been formally recognised by the WHO Regional Office for Europe for its innovative simulation-based clinical training programme, one of only three institutions in Central Asia to receive this acknowledgement.
The recognition, awarded following a structured review process conducted by the WHO Regional Office team in 2024, highlights BIMI's investment in high-fidelity simulation technology and its integration into the core curriculum from Year 1 onward. WHO assessors specifically noted the Institute's use of standardised patient scenarios, procedural simulation, and structured debrief methodology as consistent with international best practice in pre-clinical training.
What the Recognition Means
The WHO collaboration acknowledgement is not an accreditation. It is a formal recognition of good practice that enables BIMI to participate in WHO-led knowledge-sharing initiatives, regional medical education working groups, and joint research programmes focused on simulation methodology and outcome measurement.
For BIMI students, the recognition carries practical significance: graduates from WHO-acknowledged institutions are viewed more favourably during international licensing examinations and residency application processes, particularly in countries that reference WHO regional education quality indicators.
Statement from the Dean
"This recognition affirms what our faculty and students already know: that the standard of training at BIMI is not merely adequate, but genuinely excellent by international benchmarks. We are proud to be among the first institutions in Central Asia to receive this acknowledgement."
Next Steps
BIMI has accepted an invitation to participate in the WHO Regional Medical Education Network annual symposium, where the Institute will present its simulation curriculum framework as a model for adoption by peer institutions. For more information, contact info@bimiedu.com.
